Day 1 BUDAPEST – EMBARKATION
Board your cruise in Budapest. Tonight, meet your fellow passengers at the Welcome Dinner as the ship cruises to Bratislava. (B,D)
Day 2 BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA – VIENNA, AUSTRIA
This afternoon, arrive in Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. Enjoy a walking tour of the city’s major sites, including the Old Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and Gothic St. Martin’s Cathedral. Spend the evening in Bratislava before the ship cruises to magnificent Vienna later tonight. (B,L,D)
Day 3 VIENNA
This morning, enjoy a panoramic tour of Vienna that will include the majestic Opera House, the Ringstrasse and St. Stephen’s Cathedral. The afternoon is free to stroll along the Kärtnerstrasse or sample some of Vienna’s famous pastries in the historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Join an optional excursion this afternoon to Schönbrunn Palace and gardens, a glorious example of Baroque architecture. Tonight, you may attend an optional Mozart and Strauss concert. (B,L,D)
Day 4 DÜRNSTEIN – MELK
After reaching the Wachau Valley early this morning, you will have a walking tour of Dürnstein, part of a region designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the prettiest towns along the Danube. Stroll along cobblestone streets past centuries-old houses and wine taverns, marvel at the magnificent blue tower of the town’s Baroque Stiftskirche (abbey church), and see the ruins of the castle where King Richard I of England was once held for ransom. This afternoon, you may enjoy a guided bike tour from Dürnstein to Melk (if weather permits) or relax on board during a scenic cruise through the beautiful Wachau Valley. Your ship arrives late this afternoon in Melk, one of Europe’s most renowned spiritual and cultural heritage sites, where you will tour its spectacular Benedictine Abbey. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore the charming town of Melk on your own. (B,L,D)
Day 5 LINZ – PASSAU, GERMANY
This morning the ship arrives in Linz. Remain on the ship for a scenic cruise through upper Austria to Passau, a 2,000-year-old city noted for its Gothic and Baroque architecture. You will have a walking tour of Passau’s Old Town, past the old city fortifications and St. Stephan’s Cathedral, home to Europe’s largest pipe organ. As an alternative, you may join an optional excursion from Linz to Salzburg, where you will have a walking tour of the historic center, the setting for the “Sound of Music” and Mozart’s birthplace. Day 6 REGENSBURG
This afternoon, the ship arrives in Regensburg, one of Germany’s best preserved medieval cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have a guided walking tour of the city’s architectural highlights, including the Old Town Hall and the Porta Praetoria, gates to an ancient Roman fort built in 179 A.D. (B,L,D)
Day 7 NUREMBERG
Enjoy a scenic morning cruise as the ship crosses the Continental Divide via the Main-Danube Canal and leisurely cruises through the beautiful Altmühl Valley. This afternoon, you have a choice of two tours in Nuremberg. “Medieval Nuremberg” will give you a fascinating overview of this former unofficial capital of the Holy Roman Empire, an ancient city historians consider the epicenter of the German Renaissance. You will see the 900-year-old ramparts, towers and city walls of the Imperial Castle that surround the historic city center, as well as the house where artist Albrecht Dürer once resided. Another sightseeing option is the “World War II” tour that focuses on Nuremberg during the time of the Third Reich. You will visit the Zeppelin Field where Hitler once held Nazi rallies and the Justice Palace courtroom where the War Crimes Tribunal sat in 1946 (when available). The ship moors in Nuremberg overnight. (B,L,D)
