Detailed Itinerary:
Day 1. Budapest
Arrive in Budapest and board your luxurious river ship and enjoy a Welcome Dinner on board this evening.
Stay: Seven Nights: Concerto River Ship
Day 2. Mohács, Pécs
Today arrive in Mohács and enjoy an excursion to Pécs. A significant cultural base founded over 2,000 years ago, a tour of Pécs includes a visit to the spectacular Mosque Church, the largest surviving Ottoman building on earth. Discover the underground burial chambers that date back to the 4th century before a visit to St Peter’s Basilica. Rejoin the ship in Mohács for lunch on board and cruise to Villány where you’ll enjoy a wine tasting from the local vineyards. Alternatively, take a guided bicycle tour to Mohács this afternoon. Return to your ship and enjoy dinner on board.
Day 3. Vukovar, Novi Sad
Today visit the landmarks of the Yugoslavian Civil War including the Ovcara Memorial, a monumental cross that commemorates those that lost their lives in the fight for Croatia’s independence. Enjoy a relaxing lunch on board as you cruise towards Novi Sad in Serbia before disembarking for a tour that includes Danube Park, the beautiful Novi Sad Synagogue, located in the Old Town district, and the Petrovaradin Fortress.
Day 4. Belgrade
This morning, enjoy a tour of Serbia’s capital. See the Kalemegdan Fortress and the Orthodox temple of St Sava. Alternatively, visit Tito’s Memorial and the House of Flowers, where the tomb of the former President is located. Afterwards, enjoy free time to explore more of this fascinating city.
Day 5. Iron Gates
Cruise through the impressive Iron Gates today, one of Europe’s most striking natural wonders. Enjoy the day aboard your ship as you wind along the Danube through the magnificent gorges of Serbia and Romania. Sit and watch as the spectacular scenery glides serenely by.
Day 6. Vidin, Belogradchik
Arrive in Vidin today and see the Baba Vida Fortress, the only well-preserved medieval castle in Bulgaria. Discover the thick defensive walls and imposing towers that provide a stark contrast to the peaceful surrounds before enjoying a fascinating historical re-enactment. Later, travel by coach to Belogradchik to see the mighty Kaleto Fortress; a beautifully restored castle that sits on the north slopes of the Balkan Mountains and dates back to the Dark Ages.
Day 7. Giurgiu, Bucharest
Disembark in Giurgiu today and enjoy a full day excursion to Bucharest. Romania’s capital city, Bucharest has been described as ‘the Paris of the East’. Explore the city’s open-air museum or visit the Palace of the Parliament. After lunch, enjoy a guided tour of the renovated Lipscani district, the historical centre of Bucharest.
Day 8. Rousse, Disembark Ship
