Sydney
Sydney is located on the south-east coast of Australia. It is the largest and most populated city in Australia and the state capital of New South Wales. The city is built on hills surrounding Sydney Harbour where the Sydney Harbour bridge and the Sydney Opera House are located. The region features many bays, rivers, inlets and beaches including the famous Bondi Beach. Within the city are many picturesque parks including Hyde Park and the Royal Botanical Gardens.
The most well-known attractions include the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Other attractions include Royal Botanical Gardens, Luna Park, some 40 beaches and Sydney Tower. The Rocks precinct includes the first colonial village of Sydney and some great shops, cafes and galleries are located here. Sydney also has several popular museums, such as the Australian Museum (natural history and anthropology), the Powerhouse Museum (science, technology and design), the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Australian National Maritime Museum.
Hobart
Hobart is situated on the island of Tasmania and is the southern most capital city in Australia. Straddling the breathtaking Derwent River, Australia’s deepest harbour, Hobart is one of the most beautiful areas in both Tasmania, with nearby Mount Wellington dominating the city in the background.
The city of Hobart was founded in 1803 and has numerous heritage areas close to the city centre. There are many museums and galleries which provide interesting information on Hobart’s history. Some of the most popular landmarks in the Hobart area include the Tasman Bridge, Government House, the Port Arthur Historic Site, Richmond Bridge – one of the oldest stone bridges in the whole of Australia and Hobart’s St. David’s
Other world-class Hobart attractions include Derwent River, the Cadbury-Schweppes Chocolate Constitution Dock, Old Hobart Town Model Village, Bicentennial Park, the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and Salamanca Market – a lively flea market held in Hobart’s Salamanca district, which attracts more than 10,000 bargain hunters each week.
Hobart regularly features many exciting festivals and events, including the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, a spectacular race which finishes at Hobart’s waterfront at the end of each year in Hobart.
